Maharashtra Government Flags MSP Schemes Over Alleged Irregularities

Budget allocations won't help without making MSP mandatory: farm leaders | Mumbai News - The Indian Express

The Maharashtra government has raised concerns over the Minimum Support Price (MSP) schemes that were implemented under the previous administration, alleging financial irregularities and inefficiencies in the process. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that several procurement agencies were found demanding money from farmers to process their payments, violating the core principles of the MSP system.

According to officials, a probe has been initiated to examine the alleged misconduct in the procurement of crops such as wheat, rice, and pulses. Farmers across the state have voiced their grievances, claiming that middlemen and certain officials have been charging hidden fees to facilitate the MSP payouts.

The opposition, however, has dismissed these allegations as politically motivated, arguing that the government is trying to discredit the former administration. Farmer unions have demanded a transparent inquiry, urging authorities to take strict action against those found guilty.

The Maharashtra government has assured that corrective measures will be implemented to ensure that the MSP system functions smoothly and benefits farmers without any third-party interference. The state is also working on new digital payment mechanisms to minimize corruption and improve transparency in agricultural procurement.
